Complimentary Metro Water Audits – Are you concerned about your water use? Would you like to be more efficient? Many customers in the Village did not know they could use water more efficiently than they were at the time of the audit. After the District staff lent their expertise and conducted an audit, efficiency was addressed and economical recommendations presented. Homeowners that made the changes greatly increased efficiency.

***FIX A LEAK WEEK***  March 12 – 18

Metro conducts complimentary water audits for customers whose water use is higher than average. Most of the results of the audits indicate leaky toilets. It is not unusual for the leaky toilet to be so quiet that the customer is unaware of the malfunction.

Many people find it hard to believe that a leaky toilet can increase their water usage by 20,000 to 120,000 gallons per month. However, on average, toilets are found to be leaking 2 to 3 gallons per minute. If a toilet is running at 2 gallons per minute for 30 days the water bill will increase by 86,400 gallons!

Water loss prevention is very important in order to keep Metro’s water demand under control.  2.5 million gallons were prevented from being lost or wasted this winter alone.  Discovery leaks is a critical element to any Water Conservation program.  This type of activity may help to avoid costly infrasctructure upgrades.

One home increased irrigation efficiency from an average of 35% to 78%. This led to a 20% decrease in usage and the beauty of the landscape was much improved! Whether you use a large amount or a minimal amount of water each month during irrigation season, a complimentary water audit could help you conserve and/or find problems with your current watering. This audit can be scheduled with the Metro District, year-round, and will focus on water use inside your home. Please call the Water Conservation Coordinator at (303) 688-8330 to schuedule your audit.

Rebates

Irrigation Efficiency Performance-based Rebate
The District’s new rebate program focuses on Irrigation Efficiency similar to the District’s former rebate programs. However, the new program relies on the customer’s ability to achieve water conservation savings associated with the improved irrigation efficiency upgrades and retrofits. Last year, 85% of Village water use was for outdoor irrigation.

Customers must meet with the District Water Conservation Coordinator prior to making irrigation upgrades and retrofits in order to be eligible for the rebate.

The rebate process is as follows:

  1. The District Water Conservation Coordinator, Emily Coll, will first conduct a Rebate Eligibility Review with the customer PRIOR to irrigation system changes.
  2. Emily will review all possible upgrades and retrofits that are economical and logical with the customer.
  3. Emily will calculate the expected water savings based on the recommended upgrades and retrofits.
  4. District staff will meet with customer, review materials, and sign the Memorandum of Understanding.
  5. After irrigation upgrades and retrofits are complete, customer will fill out the “Certification of Retrofit” form and send to the District.
  6. Emily will evaluate the customer’s water usage the first and second year after the upgrades and retrofits were complete.
  7. If the customer achieves the expected water savings, then the customer receives a rebate of $3.29 per 1,000 gallons saved. The amount of the rebate will be determined and recorded on the Memorandum of Understanding. The maximum rebate will be $1,000.00.

Examples of Upgrades and Retrofits Identified during Rebate Eligibility Review:

  • Replace spray nozzles with rotary nozzles.
  • Install check valves.

Water Conservation Program Rebate Measures Criteria and Procedures
Castle Pines Metropolitan District’s Water Conservation Program focuses on outdoor consumption because between 65 and 80 percent of Metro’s water use is outdoor irrigation.
All Rebate Eligibility Requirements must be met in order to receive a rebate. Rebate eligibility requirements and other rebate details are subject to change pending program evaluation results.
Metro is not responsible for maintenance of any product or landscape.

Proposed water savings will ONLY be achieved if multiple water conservation methods are integrated into a holistic approach to landscape management. Many factors influence water consumption and directly relate to the amount of water saved per water conservation method adopted.

Due to circumstances beyond its control, Metro cannot guarantee that participation in the following rebate programs will result in lower utility costs.

Rebate recipients must sign the Affidavit of Lawful Presence as required by U.S.C. Section 1621 combined with 24-76.5-103(1), C.R.S. An Affidavit of Lawful Presence is required when any grant or contract is entered into by a political subdivision, such as Castle Pines Metropolitan District, with an individual or household and the contract provides a public benefit for which payments or assistance are provided through use of the District’s appropriated funds, verification of such person’s lawful presence in the U.S. is required.
