Snow Removal

The Castle Pines Village Metropolitan District is responsible for plowing and maintaining approximately 90 lane-miles of roads and over 11 miles of trails within The Village at Castle Pines. During snowstorms, our crews may work 24/7 to keep roads passable, prioritizing emergency access and public safety.

Snow Removal Priorities

Roads are plowed based on a tiered priority system:

  • Priority 1 – Collector Roads: Main roads with higher traffic volumes (e.g., Castle Pines Drive, Country Club Parkway). These are cleared first to maintain emergency access and major circulation.
  • Priority 2 – Local Roads: Roads serving neighborhoods with medium traffic volumes.
  • Priority 3 – Minor Roads & Cul-de-Sacs: Dead-end streets and lower-traffic areas. These are plowed after Priority 1 and 2 roads are clear and safe.
  • Priority 4 - Trails

Please note: In major storms, crews may need to re-plow Priority 1 roads before moving on, which can delay service to lower-priority roads. We understand this can be frustrating, but ensuring emergency access is always our top priority.

Each snowstorm varies in intensity, duration, temperature, and timing, all of which affect how quickly we can clear the roads. While our goal is to provide timely snow removal across the District, it may take up to several days to fully clear all roads and trails, especially during major storms. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as our crews work diligently and safely.

Operations and Cleanup

  • Plowing begins once 3 inches of snow have accumulated, or earlier if conditions warrant.
  • Cleanup and road widening operations begin after the storm ends, including cul-de-sac and trail plowing. With over 110 cul-de-sacs, this process can take several days.
  • School bus routes are designated Priority 1 and receive special attention.

Important Reminders

  • Do not park on roadways during snow events. This can delay plowing.
  • Private roads, common driveways, and sub-association roads are not plowed by the District.
  • Mailboxes are the responsibility of the owner. The District is not liable for damage caused by snow loads or improper installation.
  • Approach snowplows with caution. Keep at least 200 feet back and signal before passing.
  • Potholes may form due to freeze-thaw cycles.
